Nail Tutorial #2 | Polka Hearts

On Sunday I posted this weekly manicure, and I said I'd do a tutorial for it. So here it is! These nails are really easy to do for Valentine's Day, or any romantic day in your life. Or for any day of the year. So here it is!

You will need: a white polish, one light shade and one dark shade nail polish from the same tonal family (e.g light pink, dark pink), a nail art pen/toothpick, a make-up sponge and a clear top coat.

How to...create polka hearts!
  1. Start off with a base coat to protect your natural nails.
  2. Paint your nails white, this will ensure that your ombre colours really stand out.
  3. Get your make up sponge and starting with the lightest colour, paint a stripe across the sponge. Do this with all of the other colours you'll be using.
  4. Starting from one side of the nail and moving to the other side, sponge on the polish. You'll need to repeat this a few times to build up the colour.
  5. The white and the pink looked a little harsh, so I went over the whole nail with a sheer pink polish. You don't need to do this, I was just being anal about it when I was taking photos.
  6. Starting from the centre of the nail, use a nail art pen to create tiny hearts.
  7. Leave small gaps between each heart as you go down the nail.
  8. Continue to make hearts diagonally from the centre of the nail.
  9. Leave it to dry and then seal with a top coat. The top coat blends in all of the polish.
  10. Use cotton buds dipped in polish remover to wipe off polish on the skin around your fingernails. Use a small brush dipped in polish remover for the cuticle areas.
If you decide to recreate this look, please let me know!

  4. I am so envious of your nail skills! Do you work on your own nails or just acrylic ones? I always end up smudging the polish before it's dry! But i'll give this a go and show you how it turns out. ;) x

    1. Thanks Jessica! I work on my own natural nails but I can also do gel nails and false nails too! I find doing an ombre on my nails means I'm not waiting forever for my polish to dry :) Do let me know if you try it!
